Human beings have always been dependent on each other for survival. In fact, the entire economy runs on interdependence. Patients need doctors, students need teachers, farmers need bankers, and a family needs a reliable society to live in. It is not even linear but a web of connections where each one receives and must give.
Yes, it is important to be independent, and know how to deal with different situations on our own. But, we must not forget, that the entire society is interdependent.
While instilling the quality of independence in our kids, let’s not forget to make them realize that relying on someone, for a particular thing, is not a flaw. We can seek help when needed, and must lend out a helping hand to someone else in need.
Compassion and empathy, are the building blocks of societies.
